Astragalus Root

Astragalus root, also known as Huang qi, is a tonic herb that is used to strengthen the qi, or vital energy, in the body. It is classified as slightly warm in temperature and has a sweet taste. It is believed to have the ability to tonify the qi and blood, boost the protective qi and secure the exterior of the body, raise the yang qi, reduce edema, and promote the discharge of pus and generate flush.

Astragalus root is associated with the lung and spleen meridians. It should not be used in the early stages of sores or when there is a significant amount of heat toxin present after sores have ulcerated. The recommended dosage is 9-15g.
