Apricot Kernel

Cautioned for infants and with diarrhea. Contraindicated in coughs with yin deficiency or debility; avoid overdosage

Apricot Kernel, also known as Armeniacae Semen or Xing Ren, is used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat respiratory issues such as coughing and wheezing, as well as digestive problems like constipation. This herb acts on the Lung and Large Intestine channels, and has a bitter taste and slightly warm, slightly toxic temperature. It is effective in stopping coughing and calming wheezing, and also helps to moisten the intestines and unblock the bowels.

This herb should not be used for cough due to yin deficiency, and caution should be exercised in infants and those with diarrhea. Overdosage and combination with Pueraria, Astragalus, and Scute should also be avoided. The recommended dosage is 1-3g of powder or 3-9g of the whole herb.
