Liver qi constraint can cause a blockage in the flow of qi, leading to distention in the upper abdomen. This is because the Liver is unable to regulate the flow of qi, resulting in a disruption in its movement. This can also lead to slowed and congealed fluids in the gastrointestinal system, as well as constipation and possibly fluid retention and/or phlegm-dampness. The Spleen may also be affected by this type of distention.
