Thready Pulse
A thready pulse is fine as a thread and is easily palpated when taking a pulse in Chinese Medicine (TCM). It is a weak and thin pulse that can be an indication of various deficiencies, such as yin and blood deficiency or damage due to overstrain. It can also be caused by dampness in the body. In TCM, the cun position, which is the position of the pulse on the wrist, can indicate phlegm-heat, heart vexation, severe palpitations, sleeplessness, coughing, vomiting, shortness of breath, and fatigue with reticence. The guan position can indicate liver blood exhaustion, liver yin deficiency and damage, spleen-stomach weakness, and distending abdominal and epigastric fullness. The chi position can indicate kidney depletion, deficiency cold, cold and exhaustion of the lower jiao, lesser abdominal cold accumulation, dysentery, and seminal emission.
