The Pericardium
The pericardium is the protector of the heart, it is also its messenger. The pericardium is partially responsible for the symptoms of the heart, such as dizziness and delirium, which are normally considered symptoms of the pericardium as well. The heart is in control of the spirits and it is the great master of the five viscera and the six bowels. When the heart is under attack, the patient will die due to its impact on the spirits; but, according to Chinese medicine, this doesn't happen very often, simply because before the pathogenic energy gets a chance to attack the heart itself, it must attack the pericardium.
