Hematuria
Hematuria is the presence of blood in the urine without pain. The appearance of the urine varies with the amount of blood and can be pale pink, smokey, fresh red, or dark red. In some cases, there may be clots of blood. For hematuria with pain, see Painful Urination.
Traditionally, hematuria was diagnosed by observing blood in the urine. With more sensitive testing methods, non-visible traces of blood ("occult blood") can be detected. These traces are often picked up on routine urine tests in otherwise healthy individuals, so it is questionable whether treatment for hematuria is necessary. If blood traces are detected in a person with another pathology, styptic herbs can be added to the appropriate prescription.
