In Chinese medicine, halitosis that is caused by internal pathology is treated by addressing the underlying disorder of the stomach and liver. This may involve correcting imbalances of qi, regulating the stomach and liver, and resolving phlegm and dampness. Acupuncture and herbal medicine may be used to treat the underlying disorder and improve oral hygiene. In cases of non-pathological halitosis, improving oral hygiene and avoiding certain foods may help to reduce or eliminate bad breath.
